  • SAFE TRANSPORTATION OF CHILDREN IN CANADA

    Session Time: 60-90 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Whether you work with infants, children, or adult-sized teens, regardless of ability level, this workshop will give you a better understanding of the products that are available for transportation in Canada, critical factors in determining product appropriateness for a child, and tips for safe practice.

  • ADP 101 - AN INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW

    Session Time: 60 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. The Ontario Ministry of Health operates the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) to assist people with long-term physical disabilities to get funding for equipment and supplies. This education is an overview of the program, the categories of equipment that are covered, and the process to access the program for wheelchairs and mobility aids.

  • SEATING FOR THE CLASSROOM

    Session Time: 60 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. On the floor, at table level or out for recess; whether actively learning or resting, seating is a key component of effective learning. This workshop covers equipment options that are available to enable student seating. Running through the session will be key indicators to facilitate decision making on product choices.

  • WALKERS AND STANDERS

    Session Time: 60-90 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. From passive standers to anterior rollators, this session covers the equipment options to support standing and ambulation, how to classify equipment based on functional requirements, and will review the information required to best match equipment to client needs.

    Session Time: 60-90 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. This session is aimed at pediatric therapists who wish to learn more about addressing the functional equipment needs for their clients, areas of intervention and issues to consider. As well, consideration for evaluating the equipment options that are available are discussed.

    1. This session looks at the elements of the home that are key to maintaining a person in their residence. Included is a framework for determining the components of a useful home assessment and goal setting to enable client decision making.

  • A BATHROOM BY ANY OTHER NAME STILL NEEDS TO BE A FUNCTIONAL SPACE

    1. Function in the bathroom is a culmination of seating, mobility, skin care, transfers and home access. This session looks at a range of products on the market and provides a framework on how approach the issue of toileting and bathing to best meet client and caregiver needs.

    Session Time: 90 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Seating prescriptions, whether modular or custom, are limited only by the vision of the team involved. This session is an overview of the different kinds of custom seating on the market, the pros and cons of each, client and fabrication factors to consider and case studies to illustrate.

  • ASSESSMENT AND SEATING FOR THE NON-THERAPIST

    Session Time: 90 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. This basic level workshop is aimed at the non-therapist and is designed to provide education on the human elements that go into a wheelchair and seating prescription, including the initial assessment, and how equipment can be used to correct or accommodate postures.

  • POWER WHEELCHAIR

    Session Time: 60 minutes

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Powered mobility can be broken down into four major components: postural needs, frame style, input and electronics. Specific client parameters in each area determine, not only what type of power chair best meets the client's functional mobility needs, but also what features and set-up are ideal. This session provides an overview of powered mobility options, considerations for prescription and performance adjustments.

    1. Manual Wheelchairs can be categorized by type based on features and expected usage. However, how they are set up will determine how well they will work for the client. This session reviews the major components of a chair, how they operate and how to make sure they are set up correctly for the user.
